Earthworm cultivation

Since 2003, CelAgrid has been working on earthworm cultivation. The red California earthworms brought from Colombia are friendly for cultivation. A number of researches have been carried out to evaluate different substrates for earthworm production. More recently the mixture of 50:50 water hyacinth, water spinach or Siam weed and cow manure produces a promising results in term of earthworms yield. However the mixture of pig manure and forages produced poor earthworm performance. At present CelAgrid has expanded the area for earthworm production in order to meet the demand for research purpose and use as protein source for chickens and ducks. CelAgrid has been able to sell earthworms to customers in 2006.
